Dr. Catherine McCarthy specializes in the treatment of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, and anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Social Anxiety Disorder, and Panic Disorder in children and adolescents. She also has expertise in the treatment of learning and developmental disorders.
Dr. McCarthy practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for the treatment of child and adolescent anxiety disorders, and has been trained in CBT by experts at Duke University Medical Center and the Beck Institute.
In addition to her private practice, Dr. McCarthy has appeared on live television news and contributed to articles in popular magazines, where she has discussed issues regarding child and adolescent mental health. She also provides lectures regularly at schools throughout the Washington DC area to parents and students, along with adjunct teaching of residents and fellows at Georgetown University and Children's Hospital National Medical Center.
Dr. McCarthy is also involved in supporting medical care in developing countries, and has most recently dedicated time away from her private practice to support children in the Everest Region of the Himalayas.
